From a Russian tank to a tin of powdered egg; from a make do and mend toy dog to a car blown up in Iraq: the artefacts, art, documents, film and sound on display at IWM North can enrich students’ understanding of history and show the impact of war on people’s lives.

The learning programme offers a wide range of activities to help visitors make the most of the museum and can support National Programmes of Study at all levels for History, literacy, Art, Citizenship and English Literature.

Our Collections tell thousands of compelling stories, challenging us to look at war and conflict from different perspectives. In our Main Exhibition Space, you will discover the stories behind objects such as the fire-fighting trailer pump used in the Manchester Blitz of the Second World War, and come face to face with objects like the T34 Tank that reveal the true scale of modern warfare.

Take the lift up to the 29-metre-high viewing platform to explore more of Daniel Libeskind’s unusual three-shard building representing conflict on land, in the air, and at sea. Experience spectacular views of the Quays, including the new home of the BBC at MediaCity: UK, Manchester, and beyond.
