Temple Newsham
This magnificent Tudor-Jacobean house was the birthplace of Lord Darnley, infamous husband of Mary Queen of Scots, and for 300 years the home of the Ingram family until it was bought by Leeds City Council from Lord Halifax in 1922. Inside, thirty interiors display great paintings, renowned furniture including masterpieces by Chippendale, sumptuous textiles, silver, porcelain, and Leeds pottery.
PARK & GARDENS
The estate encompasses 600 hectares (1500 acres) of parkland, farmland, woodland, and gardens. Many of the fine vistas and landscape features created in the 18th century can still be seen today and if you look closely there are other survivals from earlier garden designs. Home Farm at Temple Newsam is very popular with families with children of all ages. You can see a wide range of rare breeds of animals. At different times of the year there are guided tours of the farm and farmbased activities.
