Bagshaw Museum

Bagshaw Museum, founded by Walter Bagshaw in the early 20th century, was established to educate locals about global civilizations and cultures. Today, the museum continues this mission, offering children in the north of England a unique opportunity to handle and explore real Ancient Egyptian objects. The visit is designed to inspire young people, teaching them about archaeology and encouraging them to use investigative skills in a replica tomb. Children will develop theories, analyze evidence, and present their findings during a plenary session.

Calderdale Libraries, Museums, and Arts offer "Discover," an integrated learning resource with creative programs for schools. Bankfield Museum provides four core workshops: Churchill's Children (Key Stage 2), Old Toys (Key Stages 1 & 2), Garments & Games (Key Stages 1 & 2), and Miniature Museums (Key Stage 2). Bolton Castle

Bolton Castle, a well-preserved medieval fortress in Wensleydale, offers stunning views over the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is rich in over 600 years of history. Completed in 1399 by Sir Richard Le Scrope, the castle serves as an ideal venue for educational visits covering topics from Medieval life to the English Civil War. Moorside Mills, built around 1875 as a worsted spinning mill by John Moore, evolved over time and became Bradford's Industrial Museum in 1970. The museum features permanent displays of textile machinery, steam power, engineering, printing machinery, and motor vehicles, along with a dynamic exhibitions program. Visitors can explore Moorside House, the former Mill Manager's residence, and terraced houses representing three different time periods. The English Heritage Education Team has developed three new Discovery Visits to help students of all ages understand life in a medieval castle. Students are encouraged to explore the castle's history, from its early days as a wooden motte and bailey to its eventual decline, fostering a deeper understanding of the past through investigation and inquiry.

Craven Museum & Gallery, located in Skipton Town Hall and run by Craven District Council, offers impressive displays of social history, archaeology, costume, and art. The ground floor exhibition gallery features a rotating program of heritage and arts exhibitions. Visitors can explore the area’s past through varied collections and enjoy free entry. The museum provides numerous activities for children, including dressing up, digging in an archaeology pit, and interactive quizzes. It is also home to the Skipton Shakespeare First Folio, one of only four First Folios permanently displayed worldwide.

Ingleborough Cave, revealed after natural calcite dams were broken down in 1837, offers a stunning array of sculpted passages and cave formations. Originally part of the 17 km Gaping Gill cave system, it is now safely accessible to visitors. A well-laid concrete path allows exploration for over half a kilometer into the mountain, with discreet lighting showcasing the calcite flows, stalactites, and stalagmites. Jorvik Viking Session

The York Archaeological Trust offers a series of interactive workshops designed to ignite pupils' interest in history through engaging themes. The Viking Fashion workshop explores the clothing of Vikings, including a hands-on braiding activity. In the Viking Medicines session, students learn about ancient remedies from a Viking Cunning Woman and mix traditional and modern medicines. National Coal Mining Museum

The Underground Tour at the Museum offers a unique educational experience, with pupils guided by a former coal miner 140 meters underground to explore authentic pit workings. The Museum features original colliery buildings, each with its own distinct atmosphere created by sights, sounds, and smells. Galleries and exhibitions showcase the history of coal mining and its communities, enhanced by interactive audiovisual displays. Hope Pit, a smaller 19th-century mine complex on the site, includes interactive displays and multimedia science exhibits that link mining history with scientific concepts. National Media Museum

The estate spans 600 hectares of parkland, farmland, woodland, and gardens, preserving 18th-century vistas and earlier garden designs.
